The family initially said they lost her “to the disease of mental illness.” Then, weeks later, Ashley Judd confirmed during a “Good Morning America” interview that her mother had used a gun to end her life. “I’m here because I am my beloved mother’s daughter and on the day she died, which will be the two-year anniversary in one week, the disease of mental illness was lying to her and with great terror convinced her that it would never get better,” Judd continued. Graybar, a Fortune 500 company, specializes in supply chain management services, and is a leading North American distributor of high quality components, equipment, and materials. The 56-year-old also opened up about her own mental health struggles and successes. She experienced childhood depression after being molested at age 7, she said, and, because of that she knew well the feeling of “not wanting to be here.” However, she started treatment in for her unresolved childhood grief and sexual trauma. Judd said she relied on her “chosen family” to process her mother’s death, as Aloe Blacc did with his own after Avicii’s suicide.

I do recommend doing this with the slices that don’t have a ton of frosting, as it’s hard to freeze without messing up the beautiful frosting colors. The easiest thing to do is to bake the cake layers ahead of time. Since they need to be frozen anyway, it doesn’t matter if they are baked a day or two in advance. Just pop them in the freezer and pull them out when you begin to assemble the cake. You can use this same cut-apart cake technique to make other cute animal-themed cakes for a birthday party.

Design of highly functional genome editors by modeling the universe of CRISPR-Cas sequences

protein design

Designs such as HE0902 (and future similar large assemblies) should be useful as new nanomaterials and vaccine scaffolds, with robust assembly and (in the case of HE0902) the outward facing N and C termini offering many possibilities for antigen display. Grigoryan et al. implemented a set of rule selections to assemble a superstructure of peptides that coat single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs).29 They matched the periodicity of an α-helix to the periodic pattern surface of a SWNT via Ala Cβ methyl contacts to form a supercoil of α-helical coiled coils. In the presence of mixed types of SWNTs, the designed peptides preferentially sequestered the targeted nanotube species to produce stable aqueous suspensions. Rational protein design techniques must be able to discriminate sequences that will be stable under the target fold from those that would prefer other low-energy competing states. Thus, protein design requires accurate energy functions that can rank and score sequences by how well they fold to the target structure.

Learning protein fitness models from evolutionary and assay-labeled data

In the following, we highlight recent developments in scoring functions for membrane proteins and for interactions with nonprotein molecules, as well as scoring approaches that learn from structures in the PDB. There are many areas in the field of the computational de novo protein design where significant progress is needed. To make large sequence optimization problems computationally tractable, scoring functions use a number of approximations such as implicit solvation models and pairwise decomposable energy terms. Current backbone geometry sampling methods are limited to certain secondary structures and fold topologies.

Optimization algorithms without guarantees

However, designing switches could be seen as a more tractable problem because the external trigger can introduce a large free-energy bias toward one state, making the design success less sensitive to scoring errors. An early study described a protein designed to switch between two distinct target folds triggered by the addition of Zn2+ (154). The authors used a Monte Carlo side-chain design method to optimize the sum of energies of the two folded states, showing that it is possible to design protein switches by solving a single-objective optimization problem. Following similar principles, other proteins were designed to change the oligomerization state in response to a pH change (155) (Fig. 6A) or change conformations in the presence of Ca2+ (156) (Fig. 6B). A modular protein switch that senses a small molecule was designed through an induced dimerization mechanism (12) (Fig. 6C). A ligand binding site for farnesyl pyrophosphate was designed de novo at the interface of a protein–protein heterodimer complex.

Computational Redesign of Metalloenzymes for Catalyzing New Reactions

C, side chain design methods that exploit backbone flexibility outperform fixed backbone methods (98). E, neural networks can predict the probabilities of sequences given a backbone structure (102, 103) (red). Generative machine learning models design sequences by latent space sampling (104, 105, 106, 107, 108) (green). The TR-Rosetta neural network predicts the probability of the structure of a given sequence.

Designing hydrogels with the DeForest Lab

Notably, the structure prediction neural network from TR-Rosetta (42) can be repurposed for sequence optimization (109). For a protein sequence, the TR-Rosetta neural network predicts distances, angles, and dihedrals for every pair of residues. A loss function is defined as the difference between the prediction and the target structure. The gradient of the loss is then back-propagated through the TR-Rosetta neural network to optimize the sequence.

protein design

Divalent transition metal ions show distinct preferences for specific coordination geometries (for example, square planar, tetrahedral and octahedral) with ion-specific optimal sidechain–metal bond lengths. RFdiffusion provides a general route to building up symmetric protein assemblies around such sites, with the symmetry of the assembly matching the symmetry of the coordination geometry. We designed C4 protein assemblies with four central histidine imidazoles arranged in an ideal Ni2+-binding site with square-planar coordination geometry (Fig. 5b). Diverse designs starting from distinct C4-symmetric histidine square-planar sites had good in silico success with the histidine residues in near ideal geometries for coordinating metal in the AF2-predicted structures (Supplementary Fig. 9).

Scoring interactions with nonprotein molecules

A similar method was also used to identify mutations that increase brightness and shift excitation peaks,64 allow GFP to fold faster,65 and introduce a number of additional properties useful for a wide range of applications. Comparison of force-field performance in simulations of the 78 amino acid protein, ubiquitin. Each column corresponds to a given force field (as indicted) and each row corresponds to a different model for explicit solvent (as indicated).

Functional-motif scaffolding

We construct a RF-based diffusion model, RFdiffusion, using the RF frame representation that comprises a Cα coordinate and N-Cα-C rigid orientation for each residue. We generate training inputs by noising structures sampled from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) for up to 200 steps22. For residue orientations, we use Brownian motion on the manifold of rotation matrices (building on refs. 23,24). To enable RFdiffusion to learn to reverse each step of the noising process, we train the model by minimizing a mean-squared error (m.s.e.) loss between frame predictions and the true protein structure (without alignment), averaged across all residues (Supplementary Methods). This loss drives denoising trajectories to match the data distribution at each timestep and hence to converge on structures of designable protein backbones (Extended Data Fig. 2a). The m.s.e. contrasts to the loss used in RF structure prediction training (frame aligned point error or FAPE) in that, unlike FAPE, m.s.e. loss is not invariant to the global reference frame and therefore promotes continuity of the global coordinate frame between timesteps (Supplementary Methods).

Here, we use computational protein design to create novel miniproteins that bind to human TLR3 with nanomolar affinities. Cryo-EM structures of two minibinders in complex with TLR3 reveal that they bind the target as designed, although one partially unfolds due to steric competition with a nearby N-linked glycan. Multimeric forms of both minibinders induce NF-κB signaling in TLR3-expressing cell lines, demonstrating that they may have therapeutically relevant biological activity. Our work provides a foundation for the development of specific, stable, and easy-to-formulate protein-based agonists of TLRs and other pattern recognition receptors. A 4-fold symmetric TIM barrel was designed using the blueprint fragment assembly strategy described above (34). Experimental characterization of the designs revealed important hydrogen bonds defining the strand register between repeat units.

Expanding the types of molecules supported by scoring functions is critical for designing such protein functions. Scoring functions for DNA (127) and RNA (128) have been successfully applied to structure prediction and design (129, 130). Recently, a scoring function was developed for saccharide and glycoconjugate structures (131) (Fig. 4B). Benchmarking results on docking problems showed that the scoring function has the ability to predict binding of glycan ligands. Small molecules have highly diverse combinations of chemical groups, making it challenging to transfer parameters calculated for representative molecules to other molecules. A new approach (132) simultaneously optimized all parameters in a small-molecule energy function guided by thousands of small-molecule crystal structures.

Toward new functions, recent computational advances have led to the ability to generate precise geometric variations in de novo–designed protein families, mimicking the ability of evolution to precisely tune the shapes of the members of protein families for new activities (28, 32). Although these designed proteins are not close in sequence to any naturally occurring proteins, principles from structures in the PDB are still the guiding design. Such principles are useful for generating new protein structures through assembly from continuous (33, 35) or discontinuous (25, 36, 37) three-dimensional elements, as well as for the development (38) and optimization (39, 40) of design energy functions used to rank design candidates. Moreover, the most recent developments of deep learning for protein structure prediction (41, 42, 43) foreshadow new methods in the design, taking advantage of learned principles of the protein structure (44, 45). For binder design from target structural information alone, previous work required testing tens of thousands of sequences12.

Elsewhere in the building, the locksmith, Virgilio Gonzalez, declares that he has left the correct tools to open the door in front of them in Miami. As part of your account, you’ll receive occasional updates and offers from New York, which you can opt out of anytime. This is, to some extent, a political series, which means that, in homage to Aaron Sorkin, our characters must walk-and-talk down the hallowed corridors of American governance. As Howard gets ushered back into favor, we’re treated to a who’s who of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, the federal office building in which most people who say they work at the White House actually work.

Mostly, though, the actors in the overqualified supporting cast come in, attempt to yell or flail or sputter exaggeratedly to keep up with the leads and then depart without justifying their performance. Put them together and they’re like two-thirds of the Stooges, especially when they head to Los Angeles in a series of ridiculous costumes and absurd wigs (no less realistic than the show’s general ’70s hair and makeup and costumes). It’s a funny treatment of these characters without being an insightful treatment. In terms of aspiration, you can think of White House Plumbers as Hunt and Liddy’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, two minor historical footnotes convinced they’re heroes. As a piece of history, the Watergate scandal is a daunting narrative smorgasbord.

In episode 3, titled ‘Don’t Drink the Whiskey at the Watergate,’ the team led by E. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux) try to break into the Democratic National Committee headquarters four times, failing each time for a different reason. Meanwhile, in the background, Nixon tries to establish peace with Soviet Russia. Here is everything you might want to know about the ending of ‘White House Plumbers’ episode 3.

How many times did they break into Watergate?

white house plumbers episodes

Worried that the White House will abandon the plumbers, Howard suggests to Dorothy, fresh off the plane from France, that the entire family head to Nicaragua and seek refuge with the Somoza family, who really owe Howard. Dorothy prevails upon him to lawyer up instead, and soon they’re sitting across from William Bittman, the cookie-loving attorney best known for prosecuting Jimmy Hoffa. In the end, it’s Bob Woodward who makes the first approach. He calls Hunt to ask about the letter bearing his name that Macho was carrying at the time of his arrest (a joyful little voice cameo from Robert Redford, who played Woodward in All the President’s Men).

However, as Liddy and Howard learn from John Dean, only the device they placed in the phone belonging to Lawrence F. The series depicts that this is when Howard has to acknowledge that this is yet another failure in his career, just like the Bay of Pigs invasion. Unfortunately, Howard and his locksmith get stuck in a banquet room. They have to spend the night there and urinate in a whiskey bottle (hence the title of the episode).

The series opens on a night that only threatens to be familiar to audiences of All the President’s Men. Gordon and Howard are poised at the entrance to D.C.’s Watergate office building, but they won’t be able to break in to DNC headquarters because they haven’t brought the right tools to pick the door lock. In fact, this is the team’s second attempt, and they won’t actually cross the threshold until attempt No. 4. Everything the first episode of White House Plumbers teaches you about the men responsible for the biggest scandal in U.S. political history, you can basically glean from this scene. It’s such a succinct depiction of what follows that I’m sort of shocked they didn’t cut it. And its more controlled tone — black and irreverent — makes all the farcical stuff that comes next feel chaotic.

Justin starred in the 2001 movie Mulholland Drive and American Psycho before playing Joe in the series Six Feet Under. He was in the 2006 Miami Vice movie plus the hit film The Girl on The Train. Justin was also in the series Parks and Recreation and last year’s Apple TV+ drama The Mosquito Coast.

By the end of an hour, I was exhausted by the hijinks. By the end of two hours, having sat through extended reenactments of each failed Watergate break-in, I was looking for anything resembling a still center to this madcap universe. And by the end of the fourth episode I was actively angry with the glibly cheap laughs that accompanied Dorothy and her real-life fate. Unfortunately, Liddy wants to make sure they both stay broke.

Remarkably, all this transpires over the course of about a month. In fact, it is the same historic month in which Richard Nixon and Leonid Brezhnev sign the SALT treaty, a nuclear-arms-control agreement that means American voters can stop practicing hiding under the dining-room table. The same week Howard spends a long night in a small closet?

Most of us know the story of Watergate, particularly the cover-up that followed the break-in on June 17, 1972. But White House Plumbers gives us a look at the mistakes that led to the burglars being caught and was the beginning of the end of Nixon's presidency. The third attempt is not without glitches, but they manage to get in this time and plant the recording devices.

Judy starred in Two and a Half Men, 13 Going On 30, Ant-Man, and Jurassic World. She’s also due to appear in The First Lady, coming out this year, which tells the story of the presidents’ wives. Hunt, Liddy and the Cubans attempt to break into the DNC offices at the Watergate to plant listening devices for the White House. With his family, Hunt’s “forever volunteering” the worst of parenting instincts. Somehow, despite the Nürnberg Rally that was their first dinner party, the Liddys and the Hunts have continued to socialize outside of work. Howard and Dorothy even invite Gordon and Fran to their country club in Maryland.

White House Plumbers Episode 3 Recap: Don’t Drink the Whiskey at the Watergate

Frank Wills' role in the Watergate break-in is pretty accurately portrayed in the show (aside from him meeting Hunt during that first, unconfirmed break-in). On the blog Rediscovering Black History from the National Archives, it says that while on his rounds on June 17, 1972, Wills spotted the tape on a door and removed it. However, when he returned later he saw that tape had been reapplied. This caused him to call the authorities, who then caught and arrested everyone. Other reports, including from the Nixon Library and History.com, mention that there were at least two break-ins — the planting of the failed bugs and the attempt to fix them was when they all were caught. On the second attempt, the entire team goes in together until James W. McCord Jr. (Toby Huss) separates from them and runs into two security guards.

They recon the doctor’s Beverly Hills office in ludicrous yet entirely penetrable disguises. They take photos of themselves on a camera borrowed from the CIA but then forget to take the film out before returning it. About halfway through the first episode of the new HBO miniseries White House Plumbers, G. Gordon Liddy and his wife, Fran — played by Justin Theroux and the impeccably outlandish Judy Greer, respectively — have Gordon’s co-worker E. Howard Hunt (Woody Harrelson) and his wife, Dorothy (Lena Headey), over for dinner. Despite its short number of episodes, White House Plumbers has a lot of history to work with. The Pentagon Papers, Watergate, and of course the aftermath of those historical events.

'Conan O'Brien Must Go' Review: Conan's Max Travel Series Is Smartly Stupid Fun

white house plumbers episodes

White House Plumbers endeavors to humanize its perpetrators by illustrating that beneath their buffoonery was… lots and lots more buffoonery. The series starts with this imbecility already at maximum volume and then makes it louder and louder. Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck's five-part series argues that the people in charge of the Watergate break-in were, perhaps, slightly buffoonish. The limited series is now available to stream in its entirety. I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years.

Interviews: Woody Harrelson and Juston Theroux give the lowdown on White House Plumbers

Magruder earlier spoke to him and revealed that Nixon needed the photographs of everything that O’Brien had in his bottom left drawer. Even though Liddy has grown as disillusioned with his bosses as Howard, he is still staunchly loyal to Nixon. He tells Howard that if he quits now, he will prove his detractors in the CIA right, and that gets through to the other man. Then suddenly, the fifth episode decides we’re supposed to take everything seriously.

And that’s what the rest of the episode is devoted to explaining — how Mitchell could grow desperate enough to take these men up on their bonkers scheming. And how Liddy and Hunt climb their way back from the basement of Mitchell’s estimation to his good graces. This is where Kathleen Turner finally comes into play. We learn — not via chyron, but by its cousin, archival news coverage — that Turner is Dita Beard, a lobbyist for a company called International Telephone and Telegraph. In the episode’s cold open, she was typing up a memo about the time Mitchell promised ITT a favorable outcome in an antitrust lawsuit in exchange for a humongous donation to the RNC convention in San Diego. Now, the memo’s been leaked to newspaper columnist Jack Anderson.

Top cast

It turns out that Howard’s been sending out notes on White House stationery, including to the flirty flight attendant who he met on the way home from the Ellsberg break-in. I think the threat is that if Howard writes the book on Watergate, the Ellsberg scandal will break, too? I’m not entirely sure, but seeing as the book seems like a TERRIBLE idea, I guess it’s just as well!

Liddy runs upstairs, grabs a gun, and jumps from a second-floor window to surprise and terrorize the egg assailant while Hitler barks. Despite the unflinching physicality Theroux brings to his role, this is not funny. Even if it really happened, it feels stupid to watch it.

He calls it in and eventually the police arrive, catching McCord and the others in the act of breaking in. There were too many characters in this madcap dramedy and they almost all beggar belief — one outlandish caricature after another — except that they’re all real. It’s a problem that Hollywood has solved by telling the Watergate story over and over again, with the spotlight on a different principal within the burgeoning fiasco each time. There’s Nixon stooge Bud Krogh, a deputy assistant responsible for onboarding Howard, played by Rich Sommer (in real life, Krogh’s memoir was part of the inspiration for this series). Domhnall Gleeson plays White House counsel John Dean.

After failing upward, the unlikely pair lands on the Committee to Re-Elect the President, plotting several unbelievable covert ops – including bugging the Democratic National Committee offices at the Watergate complex. Proving that fact is sometimes stranger than fiction, White House Plumbers sheds light on the lesser-known series of events that led to one of the greatest political scandals in American history. Liddy’s notorious plot to spy on the Democratic National Committee, which led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation in August 1974, is satirically featured in the new HBO limited series White House Plumbers. Justin Theroux stars as Liddy, and Woody Harrelson plays his co-conspirator E. The real life Liddy and Hunt were part of a special White House unit, informally known as the Plumbers, whose job was to prevent or respond to leaks of classified information. There were two operations that night, with one team staying to break into the DNC and another attempting to break into Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern's campaign offices.

white house plumbers episodes

Howard tries to assure Liddy and probably himself by claiming that the Cubans will not break under pressure, not realizing that the officers have found the envelope he gave Bernard “Macho” Barker to put into the hotel mailbox. Addressed to the Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, it contains membership fees. On the fateful night of June 17, 1972, Virgilio Gonzalez, Bernard Barker, James McCord, Eugenio Martínez, and Frank Sturgis, break into the DNC headquarters at the Watergate complex. Security guard Frank Wills notices tape covering the latches of some of the doors and calls the authorities. Sgt. Paul W. Leeper, Officer John B. Barrett, and Officer Carl M. Shoffler, dressed in what can be categorized as hippie clothing, arrive at the scene and arrest the burglars. After the third attempt effectively ended in failure and the mockery they subsequently received from Dean and Magruder, Howard decides to go on a trip to Paris with his family.

You’ll remember the second attempt — first attempt No. 2, really — from the White House Plumbers series premiere. The ragtag crew of political criminals makes it up to the DNC offices, but Villo doesn’t have the tools necessary to pick the lock. They’re on the Watergate premises just long enough for McCord to get ID’d by a security guard he used to work with.

This five-part limited series imagines the behind-the-scenes story of how Nixon’s political saboteurs, E. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux), accidentally toppled the presidency they were zealously trying to protect… and their families along with it. Chronicling actions on the ground, this satirical drama begins in 1971 when the White House hires Hunt and Liddy, former CIA and FBI, respectively, to investigate the Pentagon Papers leak.

DIY Cornhole Boards with Free Plans

corn hole design

We applied 2 coats on everything, waiting about 5 minutes between coats. Grab both of your 20.75″ boards and mark 4″ and 7″ from each end. Cut your 1×4 boards down according to the cut list below, or grab the printable plans to see the visual cut list that minimizes board waste. I like mine to be hovering dead center over the 6" hole. Drill countersink and attach leg brace with 1 1/4" screws. Mark the legs and inside of the board L/L R/R so you know where they go after you cut them. It's easier if you mark the same side of both legs so you don't have to adjust your mitre saw much (if at all) for the second leg.

Brag Posts from this Plan

Clamp the leg in place and drill through hole you previously made in the leg and through the cornhole board base. You can clamp a board to the outside of the cornhole board base to help prevent tearout. Using a 3/8″ drill bit, drill a hole in each of the legs at this point. If space didn’t allow for building both boards at the same time, repeating these steps is necessary to build the other half of the DIY cornhole set.

When you love something as much as we love custom cornhole boards, you only want the best for... Cornhole boards typically use 2×4 studs rather than 2×3 like we are using. I like using the 2x3s as they provide a very sturdy product while making the boards less bulky and heavy than an official cornhole set. This could change the angle of your boards by a little bit, but honestly this doesn’t bother me in the least. I have never set these on a grassy surface that didn’t alter the angle a little bit anyway. Alternatively you could subtract an inch in the following step to account for this.

DIY American Flag Cornhole Set

The design’s color scheme, graphics, and sublimity make it a great option for an outdoor cornhole game. This board is also made of birch wood with a pine wood frame. The vinyl is protected with 3M UV-protected lamination, extending the durability and providing a year of use. The set includes 2 boards, 8 bags, storage bag (for boards and bags). Just because the sun goes down does not mean that the party has to stop.

IF you have a pressing deadline, email us and we will try to get you your set in time. This design is really simple but definitely makes the board unique. It would fit in perfectly at the beach because of the color choices.

You can also cut your own out of a larger sheet of ¾" plywood. Use a circular saw jig to get precise, straight cuts. With both DIY cornhole boards assembled, painted, and dry, it’s time to kick off the family cornhole tournament. Grab the boards and find a level area in the backyard. A cornhole board is a cherished and valued investment for a cornhole enthusiast. It tells everyone your love for the game without even saying a word. Luckily for all such people, there are tons of cornhole boards with creative designs that will take your game to the next level.

Drill a ⅜” hole on the center mark used for the arc. We have made a set of these boards for ourselves and a couple sets to give away as gifts. This will be a tutorial for building the boards only although we have 3 different sets featured for board design ideas. Remove the legs and insert the carriage bolts through the holes you just drilled. Then thread a washer, the leg, another washer, and screw in place with a wing nut. Drill a hole on one side of each of the circles using your 3/8″ drill bit.

Then insert your jigsaw blade into the hole and cut out the circles. Line your 1.5″ paddle bit up with these marks and drill through the 1x4s. Place a scrap board underneath the 1x4s to help prevent the wood from tearing out when you drill through. Cut out the circle with the jigsaw, keeping the blade slightly inside your marked line. My hole looked pretty lumpy when it was all cut out, so I used a sanding drum attachment on my drill to smooth out the sides. Pre-drill holes in the leg brace so they're nice and even.

Bring your next backyard barbecue to life by building this beautiful cornhole set. The regulation board frame is made from Poplar and 5/8-inch Baltic Birch top. The design is printed with UV ink to avoid fading over years of use. The 4×2 feet board is made from ½-inch treated plywood and ¾-inch pine framing.

Place the longer lengths (the 48-inch 2x4s) parallel to each other. Place the 21-inch boards between these longer boards at their ends. Nothing says family fun like a little bit of friendly competition! The 48×24 inches cornhole sets are made from high-quality hardwood.

The description “Live Like A Captain” is a fun and motivational quote. The board is a perfect setup for a cornhole session with friends. The bags are also designed with 2 crossed swords and CM written in a circular.

Even typically downturn-proof communities such as Aspen and Palm Beach were not immune to the slowdown. As always, a majority of the top 10 deals were hush-hush transfers inked off-market. And it’s worth noting that all but two of the deals involved oceanfront—or at least waterfront—properties, suggesting buyers are still willing to shell out big for trophy vacation homes with direct beach access. Once owned by former US President Donald Trump, the property was developed into an ultra-exclusive beachfront mansion by a Russian businessman in 2016. While 2023’s 10 priciest real estate transactions racked up a total sales volume of nearly $1.2 billion, slightly surpassing our 2022 list’s tally, these deals were the exceptions. In almost every luxury market across the country, overall volume declined by double-digit percentages compared to the prior year, driven by economic jitters and soaring interest rates. Among the most severely impacted markets was the greater Los Angeles area, where there’s currently a glut of luxury mansions up for grabs, many of them sporting heavily slashed listing prices.

The Odeon Tower Penthouse might not feature a garden but it does offer spectacular views across Monaco. Known as the world’s most expensive flat, it sits at the top of a 560ft skyscraper. Overlooking the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, The Odeon Tower Penthouse has its own 360-degree infinity pool, complete with a private water slide for those who fancy a salt-free swim. Prices for the most expensive homes have kept climbing even as the inventory of high-end properties has increased sharply this year. All told, the number of luxury homes on the market jumped 12.6% in the first quarter compared to a year earlier, while new listings surged nearly 19%, Redfin said.

Years of restoration—and a $90 million investment—turned it from a derelict, half-put-together house into a millionaire’s dream, with a value that’s grown exponentially. In total, this rich house—if you can call this Crown property a mere house—contains 775 rooms, including 19 staterooms, 92 offices, and 78 bathrooms. With 1,200 feet of beachline, the mansion is also home to a botanical garden, sports complex, and treehouse. It’s currently listed for $195 million but will most likely sell for less at some point. Here you’ll also find the cineplex-sized movie theater with seats for 40 and state-of-the-art Dolby Digital sound.

It even has a snow room that spits out snowflakes if India’s high temperatures get a little too much. Buckingham Palace might not be put up for sale anytime soon, but if it were, it would be worth around $4.9 billion dollars, making it the most expensive house in the world. With 240 bedrooms—188 staff rooms and 52 royal and guest bedrooms—as well as a swimming pool and doctor’s surgery, it’s a place called home by the British Royal Family and is also open to the public for guided tours.

The extensive irrigation system, fed by a private well, ensures lush greenery year-round. The home has been tastefully updated with high-quality finishes while retaining its period charm. Ideal for entertaining, it features an enclosed sunroom, restored fireplaces, a hand-painted mural in the dining room, high-end appliances, and an expansive kitchen. The last home on our list might be easily recognizable on account of the fact that it has appeared in many Hollywood films such as The Godfather and The Bodyguard.

In the next room over, there's a private bowling alley.

One reason for the diverging sales data is that wealthy home shoppers are more likely to have the financial flexibility to bypass financing hurdles by paying in cash. The trend is helping accelerate the growth in home sale prices among the most high-end homes at a faster clip than less expensive properties. Sales of luxury homes rose 2.1% in the first quarter versus a year earlier, while sales of properties in the middle-third of the market fell 4.2%, according to the report.

The financier and philanthropist has also decked the abode out with an impressive collection of art, including pieces by Edward Hopper and Cy Twombly.
